Meet Dr. Ben Sohmer- Anesthesiologist

Dr. Ben Sohmer completed a BSc in Anatomy and Cell Biology at McGill University in Montreal in 1996. In 2000, he earned his MD from Dalhousie University in Halifax. In 2005, he went on to gain certification as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCPC) in Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa. He completed a Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio in 2006 and then went on to earn a Master of Education at the University of Cincinnati in 2013. He has been involved in medical curriculum development and lectures nationally and internationally on intra-operative echocardiographic imaging. Dr. Sohmer worked as an Anesthesiologist in the Division of Cardiac Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute and as an Associate Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine. Dr Sohmer joined the team at Capital Periodontics in 2008 as medical director and now focuses his practice on dental and outpatient anesthesia.

Dr Sohmer and his wife Ali have two sons Jonah and Micah. Dr. Sohmer is fluent in English and French and is conversant in Hebrew. He is an amateur pilot, an avid golfer and skier.
