Meet Dr. Avi Shelemay

Dr. Avi Shelemay founded Capital Periodontics in Barrhaven in November of 2008. In addition to managing his thriving clinic, Dr. Shelemay is the co-founder of Global Dental Mentorship (GDM). GDM provides online and hands-on training to general dentists.

With a passionate for teaching and mentoring, Dr. Shelemay frequently engages in lectures and spearheads a monthly Study Club for referring dentists.
Prior to relocating to Ottawa, Dr. Shelemay held the positions of Assistant Professor (part-time) with the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Toronto and Staff Periodontist at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Shelemay is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in Periodontology. He obtained his Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Toronto in 1996, and subsequently completed a one-year internship at Mount Sinai Hospital. Dr. Shelemay completed his Master of Science Degree and specialty training in Periodontology at the University of Toronto in 2002.

Dr. Shelemay and his wife Elisa have two daughters, Leetal and Michaela. He enjoys spending time with his family and their adorable dogs, Piper, and Ozzy. Dr. Shelemay has his pilot license, is fluent in English, Hebrew and Italian and loves going to the gym.
