Meet The Staff

Melissa- Office Manager
Melissa brings over 17 years of experience in the dental field to her role as Office Manager. Melissa graduated from the Algonquin College Dental Assisting program in 2005 and has held clinical, administrative, and managerial roles in dental clinics ever since.
Melissa is responsible for overseeing the seamless day-to-day operations of the office, as well as ensuring there is open communication with referring dental offices.
Melissa is passionate about fitness. She enjoys working out, competing in ultimate frisbee, and playing with her labradoodle Dez.
Amy- Dental Hygienist
Amy has had a life-long passion in promoting healthy smiles! She knew from a young age that she wanted to be a Dental Hygienist. Amy graduated with honours from Algonquin College in 2001 and has been living and working in the field in Ottawa ever since. Amy is a member of Ontario Dental Hygiene Association and College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario.
Amy ensures each patient has a positive experience in the dental chair. In addition to providing periodontal maintenance appointments, she also helps Dr. Shelemay with comprehensive consultations.
Amy is an avid reader and loves to continue learning. She enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, working out and enjoying a round of golf.
Lisa- Patient Co-ordinator
Lisa started her Dental career as a Dental Assistant in 2002. After a few years as a Dental Assistant, she moved into an administrative role.
As Patient Co-ordinator, Lisa is responsible for booking our new patient consultations, hygiene appointments and following up with patients regarding their treatment.
Lisa enjoys gardening and spending time with her family. She has 3 grown children and a cute little dog named Finnigan.
Erica- Dental Assistant
Erica has been with Capital Periodontics since 2012 (with a short hiatus in between).
Erica graduated from Everest College for Dental Assisting in 2008 with Honours. She has enjoyed a career in the dental field since that time, mostly in specialty offices. She has a passion for surgery and loves assisting chair-side.
Erica loves painting and animals (she has many!). Erica lives in Kemptville with her husband Joe and her two sons.
Christine- Dental Assistant
Christine LaRose was Dr. Shelemay’s first Dental Assistant at Capital Periodontics in 2008 right after graduating from Everest College in Dental Assisting! Christine returned “home” to our office in 2018, and we are thrilled to have her.
Christine has 15 years of dental experience in both general and surgical offices. She is familiar with all the surgical treatments and can answer any questions you may have!
Christine enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 boys and her Bulldog Gus. Christine loves camping, being outside and all aspects of photography, always having her camera in hand! (We have her to thank for the website pictures.)
Brianna- Dental Assistant
Brianna graduated from Algonquin College with Honours for Dental Assisting in 2019. She was excited to work for Capital Periodontics and gain more exposure to surgery as her goal is to continue to grow in the field.
Brianna’s top priority is patient care and will do everything she can to ensure patients treated are comfortable and happy.
In her free time Brianna enjoys being outdoors and travelling.
Lorraine- Floater
Lorraine moved into dentistry after having an established career as a Pharmacy Technician. Having experience in health care, the move to dentistry offered an opportunity for learning while remaining in a similar type of field.
As a Floater, Lorraine helps the Capital Periodontics Team anywhere she is needed. You will most often find her sterilizing instruments and setting up the operatories for surgery. She is also happy to pitch in with answering the phones and greeting patients. Her versatility is a great asset!
Lorraine loves spending time with her family, husband and 2 sons. She enjoys camping, astronomy, and baking treats.
